Nathaniel Ro-Douglas Lachapelle

NL (5 of 12)My husband is an amazing photographer – his knack for catching moments is incredible and it is never more evident than in the power that this photo has on me. This photo is one that makes me sob from the happiest place in my heart and I am so glad I can always remember the way I felt and know there is a record of it that will live on after me. This is the moment where they placed my son on my chest for the first time and I lifted my face to heaven and thanked God for sending us our son – safe and healthy.  I shared with you just how scared I was to have children, I was definitely worried something would happen and worried about being hurt. In fact, when little Nate came out into the world I didn’t want to look at him until I knew he was ok because I knew I would fall in love instantly – and I did.

Born 6 pounds and 6 ounces he entered into this world with a scream and was then quiet within a minute. While his daddy watched him get weighed and checked he stared around in wonder at the room around him. So inquisitive already and such a sweet disposition Bryan and I are so over the moon – head over heels in love with him. The love for your own child is so incredibly raw and ravenous that it devours your whole being and humbles you to the very core. I can’t imagine feeling any more full of love than we are now – not just for him but for each other. The different side of my husband that I have seen in watching him be a father is amazing. I knew he would be awesome but he has been so much more than I have ever expected. He is so eager to help and do anything and everything that involves little Nathaniel. My husband that is normally grumpy when woken in the middle of any kind of sleep – gets up in the middle of the night – groggy but totally eager to do whatever it is that is needed. He has also been incredibly supportive of me – the labour was not easy and I am still in an incredible amount of pain. It was all entirely worth it when his little eyes look up at me (fuzzily of course) with curiosity and when his little fingers wrap around one of mine. I can’t wait to see what kind of person he will become and how his personality will shape.

Thanks to all of you for your support – Bryan and I feel so incredibly supported – from amazing friends and family that prepared meals for us or dropped by the hospital to clients that have sent their well wishes and gifts our way. It is so amazing and we can’t thank everyone enough.

I’ll leave you as always with some photos,

Wishing you friendship and love,

Amanda

Teeth + Sitting up on his own = time for Tina & RJ’s  little guy Tavish to get some new photos done – this is just one of many sessions we’ve got set up for the year. Can’t wait to see how the photos we do in his halloween costume will turn out – I got a sneak peak at the costume tonight and he’s gonna be so cute!

Caleb + Kalina

Second shooting is not an easy task – it requires a special set of skills and certain abilities – I tell all my assistants that they should never undermine their talent because they are not the lead. The ability to step back and catch more candid moments is just one of these abilities shared by second shooters and photojournalists – and as I have said a million times before – a skill I definitely would like to develop. So when one of my facebook friends – the fabulous Jenna Simpson asked me if I was free for a Friday wedding to come and second shoot with her – I jumped at the chance – even though it was the same weekend as my shower, and being 8 months pregnant I couldn’t even really carry her bag!

Jenna always posts super fun and creative shots and I have always loved looking at her work – so I knew we’d have a good time and I was so right. Freezing in the parking lot – we sat for almost an hour after we were done just chatting. I am so thankful to her for asking me to come along for this wedding. Caleb and Kalina were beyond cute and had one of the most touching ceremonies – I loved all the songs incorporated and how both sets of parents came and layed their hands on them in prayer after presenting them with a bible. It was a beautiful day and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. Thanks to both of them for including me and being so easy to photograph! Here’s a few photos from their day . . .

Meredith + Jay

I know, I know, I say I love all my clients and I do! I really do! You will never get me to admit to having favorites but honestly their are some clients that just make you want to weep tears of happiness. When Meredith and Jay met with me I was jumping for joy – if you could imagine in your mind your perfect client – one who understands exactly what you do and trusts you implicitly, this is Meredith. If I could have scripted what a client would say in my wildest dreams the words that came out of Meredith’s mouth would have followed that script exactly and I actually turned to her just a little teary eyed during our meeting and confessed this.

These two are such an awesome couple and make me so happy to do what I do. We decided to do engagement photos in Port Dalhousie – in addition to being a quaint and beautiful background for photos it is a place of childhood memories for Jay and somewhere they both enjoy. With the very realistic possibility of the face of Port Dalhousie changing forever with new development they both expressed that they would like to get some photos there before things change. We also took a few photos at Jay’s parents house in St Catharines – next to the gorgeous Nokara farms the property is beautiful and full of possibilities. It was a relaxed and fun evening of snapping some photos, talking Harry Potter and Twilight and enjoying the sunset. Thanks to you both for being so incredible!

Lacey + Dan

The words “today I marry my best friend” have never been truer than the day that Dan & Lacey married. A couple who laughs, loves and teases each other but whose gentle and profound admiration of each other speaks louder than the playful banter between the two. After the jokes were made and speeches with funny stories about the two growing up Dan and Lacey got up and spoke their words – Dan the ever funny and effervescent life of the party guy, with a catch in his throat admitted that he is a better person for having Lacey in his life and Lacey’s face was priceless. The looks of love between the two were of two best friends and soul mates celebrating their love and I couldn’t be happier for them!

Thank you to both of you for including Bryan, Katie and I in your day – I can’t believe how much I laughed and it made me truly thankful that you picked me to photograph your day. Here are some of the photos from the day . . .
