Lauren + Ryan

I love when fate and the universe come together and align to make everything the way they should be. I love that because of this I have awesome clients like Lauren and Ryan – who are so amazingly cute together but fate definitely intervened for their engagement session. When Lauren suggested Webber falls for their session I have to say I was a pretty happy girl – I mean – I LOVE waterfalls. Whenever we go on vacation we normally go looking for any of the waterfalls in the area and go hiking around them. When I showed up at Webber falls I was a little taken aback though – there was a parking attendant and the place was FULL of people. I know that Lauren and Ryan would probably be a little bit shy having their photos taken around that many people and I was wondering how we were going to make this work. I met them along the path and I could tell right away from their faces that they did not think there would be that many people either but we decided to go down some of the paths by the water and get some photos away from all of the people. We walked along the water at the bottom of the falls and although there were still hikers it was definitely better than the park area. We got some good shots and then wandered up to the falls to hopefully capture a photo where for a second no tourists were in the background. With some careful cropping and definitely patience on their part we got a few good ones there too. As we walked back from the water – I felt a little worried. I knew I’d gotten shots that were great and ones even that the couple would absolutely love but I didn’t get anything awesome that really and truly captured the love between them and I really like to have a magical feeling about my engagement sessions where couples are having a lot of fun and enjoying the bond that they share. That’s a little difficult to do with so many people around. I asked Lauren and Ryan if they wouldn’t mind following me and we could find some random local places away from all of these people – they both looked relieved and excited and things were back on track!  We stopped at an old building – we pulled over for a field and then we came across some private property of someone’s house and were planning on seeing if we could get into this wild field without them knowing. As we walked up the side we noticed there were some girls sitting there – figuring that they lived there we knew the jig was up so we decided to ask permission to go on the property. It turns out the girls didn’t live there but they told us the owners would probably be fine. As we walked up their driveway to go to the side I saw the owners outside on this gorgeous bridge enjoying a glass of wine. I felt bad about bothering them but nonetheless they had already seen us. I met them halfway on their lawn and asked if they wouldn’t mind if we took a photo on their property and then surprise surprise they showed us the bridge, the creek, a gorgeous field attached and a tree swing! The welcomed us to take photos anywhere and I’m so glad as they had a beautiful property. As their dog ran out into the field while we were taking photos and Lauren and Ryan broke out into big smiles I knew we had found our spot. Thank you so much to you both for your patience – I am so happy with what we came out with and this is the perfect example of why it’s important to work with someone that truly cares about you. I cared enough to make sure that we got awesome photos but that Lauren and Ryan felt awesome about the session in return. You guys were awesome and I can’t wait for the wedding! Here’s a few from our session . . .

Wishing you friendship and love,

Amanda

I love 2010

Seriously, this year has been nuts! Every time I get together with a new couple and do an engagement session or talk about their wedding I get super excited. My first wedding of the season was Suzanne and Jeremy on May 1st and I can’t wait to show you some of the images! I just want to say thank you to everyone who honoured me by hiring me to document their day. 2010 has brought so many new friends and awesome opportunities. I can’t wait to see how it all turns out!

Tara + Glen

Sometimes when I blog I feel like I’m repeating myself quite a bit but it doesn’t matter because I just can’t say it enough – I love working with the same families over and over. Tara is Tricia’s sister (Tricia and Shawn from October 2008) and I was so honoured when Tara and Glen asked me to photograph their day. We had some fun snow engagement photos (coming up in a blog post soon when I will go over what I was doing when I was missing from the blog) but we went out and did some other more romantic engagement photos the other night. Tara and Glen are so much fun to photograph because they are beyond ridiculously cute together! We found some fields – we did some trespassing and we adventured around Niagara Falls. Here’s a few shots from our session . . .

Field cuddling – best kind

Had to trespass over a fence for this one – but I think it’s worth it

Glen always makes Tara laugh

I don’t want to call anyone a cheater but this was one of the most creatively competitive games of air hockey I’ve ever seen!

Oh yeah – let’s just finish with a jumping shot

Can’t wait for the wedding guys and thanks again for the candy!

Wishing you friendship and love,

Amanda

Natalie + Adam

If i titled my blog posts according to my clients personalities rather than their names I would have titled this one “kindred spirits” – yesterday  I had the pleasure of heading out to Balls Falls and photographing Natalie and Adam’s engagement photos. As always during any kind of a shoot the conversation was going a mile a minute and of course as often happens, I discovered that the bride and I share something in common but in this case it’s almost more than a shared interest – I’d call it a shared love. Embarrassingly, I was talking about my mother, always joking (especially during my teenage years) that I was overdramatic, everything was always the end of the world, she’d tell me to give it up – and call me Anne (with an e) Shirley. As I was telling this story (yes, I regularly and often share funny and sometimes embarassing stories with my clients to make them laugh – and that folks is the trick to getting a good laughing picture ;) and professing my love for my “bosom” buddy Anne – Natalie cried out “me too!”. When I think back to all of the “me too” memories with all of my clients on different subjects it makes me so happy and also makes me feel incredibly lucky that I am so fortunate to get brides (and yes sometimes grooms) that come my way with whom I have so many common interests. I love getting to know everyone and learning about who they are it’s one of the best parts of being a wedding photographer. On that note here is a few images from their session . . .

Ok so I’m pretty fearless when it comes to climbing to different spots but these guys were awesome – they are literally on the edge of this waterfall :)

Any one else out there who might be an Anne fan might get this – the white picket fence was too narrow but we figured the drop on the other side of this wall made it just as dangerous :) Take that Josie Pye :)

Thanks again to Natalie and Adam for being so awesome – I had a great time :)

Wishing you friendship and love,

Amanda

Meredith + Jay

I know, I know, I say I love all my clients and I do! I really do! You will never get me to admit to having favorites but honestly their are some clients that just make you want to weep tears of happiness. When Meredith and Jay met with me I was jumping for joy – if you could imagine in your mind your perfect client – one who understands exactly what you do and trusts you implicitly, this is Meredith. If I could have scripted what a client would say in my wildest dreams the words that came out of Meredith’s mouth would have followed that script exactly and I actually turned to her just a little teary eyed during our meeting and confessed this.

These two are such an awesome couple and make me so happy to do what I do. We decided to do engagement photos in Port Dalhousie – in addition to being a quaint and beautiful background for photos it is a place of childhood memories for Jay and somewhere they both enjoy. With the very realistic possibility of the face of Port Dalhousie changing forever with new development they both expressed that they would like to get some photos there before things change. We also took a few photos at Jay’s parents house in St Catharines – next to the gorgeous Nokara farms the property is beautiful and full of possibilities. It was a relaxed and fun evening of snapping some photos, talking Harry Potter and Twilight and enjoying the sunset. Thanks to you both for being so incredible!
