Tara + Glen

I love all my clients equally – you will never be able to wrestle out of me which are my favourites (there is no winning at this Tara so don’t even try! lol) but I love different things about every client. What I love about Tara and Glen – well this would have to be a very long blog post if I went through everything but I will try to keep it short. I love that Tara and I share a love for candy – I can speak 7/11 candy wall with that girl any day, I love that Glen totally gets my super sarcastic sense of humour – they both do and even run with it sometimes, but really most of all I love that they never treated me like a vendor – more like a friend. This is my third wedding with their families and Tara’s sister Tricia (Whose wedding to Shawn I photographed in 2008) has been one of my biggest supporters so I knew there would be an instant rapport but I was not prepared for this connection. I don’t want to sound egotistical but photography is an art form and every photographer is an artist. The way I approach my art is in three ways; the first my client relationship and how I make clients feel, the second what I do with my camera, and the third how I edit the photos. I have never found such an appreciation for myself as an artist as I have with Tara and Glen – they would constantly defer to me but this wasn’t because they didn’t care – it was because they did and trusted me to deliver what they wanted. I never felt like just another person hired for their wedding day – I wasn’t just the photographer – I was Amanda and they so totally got what that meant. Everyone talked about Tara’s childlike enthusiasm in their speeches and I would definitely say that as well. I spent so much of the day laughing; I can’t remember if it was from the blue steel faces or from the “thumbs up” shenanigans.

Once again, they made me cry – so many times over, not just from their effusive thanks to us in their speech but from the emotion that came pouring out of them without restraint. I am certain that any woman in that room felt a tug on her heart strings if not her tear ducts watching Tara dance with her father but for me I bawled behind the viewfinder of my camera watching Glen dance with his mother. I can only think of one day dancing with Nate at his wedding and letting him go to the beautiful and deserving daughter in law I hope to have one day. These two are so meant for each other and if I was as competitive as Tara I’d place a bet on them – but then I’d win right? Thanks so much to the Poulin and Beauregard families – you will always be near and dear to my heart. Thanks again for welcoming me into your hearts and families. Here’s a few photos from the day . . .

Liz + Ryan

A picture of quiet radiance and contained excitement was what met me at the door to her parents house. Liz was itching to get into her dress and waiting for me before putting it on. Even though it was her wedding day some of the first words out of her mouth were to inquire about how I was feeling and how the baby was. See, we were both pulling for the same thing – that I get through September 5th without going into labour! Doing a wedding 9 months pregnant was crazy – fun – tiring – joyful and emotional. I could not have done it without my amazing team of papparazzos – Sam, Bryan and another fulltime photog; Rick Denham. I have second shot for Rick before so it was fun to have him come a long on this side of things and he was a HUGE help!

I am so terribly late in blogging this wedding but I still want to tell the story from their day. I first met Liz and Ryan through Caitlin – one of Liz’s co-workers and very good friend. Caitlin and I had worked together on a few weddings at Hernder’s back when she was doing her placement for college there. So when Liz and Ryan came in for their first meeting they mentioned not wanting to be too long because they had their puppy at home so they had to limit their time. Well, knowing that I talk a lot (yes, despite my awful blogging habits in person I am a little miss chatterbox) I knew that we would probably run over and well I love animals anyways – so I invited them to bring their Jack Russell – Eddie along. What a perfect play date for my Freddie and even if they decided not to book me Freddie would make a new friend and work out some energy. I am so glad that they brought Eddie with them because we definitely ran over and by the end of it I knew that we would be working together!

Through all the planning, the engagement shoot, and the wedding the thing that struck me the most about these two was their complete ease. WHO plans a wedding and isn’t stressed about it? Well I guess having one of your close friends as your wedding planner helps but more than that they had a great attitude about the day. Both of them couldn’t wait to be married and in fact Liz drew more than a few giggles during the ceremony as she was practically dancing around as Father John announced them – she just wanted to get to the kiss – because she missed Ryan and couldn’t wait to walk hand in hand down the aisle with him.

It was so awesome to be there and witness two best friends and soulmates celebrate their relationship, love, families and characters together in such a special way. Thanks again reading my panicked e-mail in February and listening to the fact that my due date was a mere 2 and half weeks from your wedding day and sticking it out with me. I know I had a backup plan just in case but your faith in me is priceless. On that note – on to the photos!

Ida + Les (Everett)

What does a human trying to imitate a moose call attract? Apparently it’s the sort of thing that attracts Ida to Les. I always have fun on engagement sessions but I think their session is the first time I laughed so hard I cried (literally). Les is hilarious and makes Ida (and everyone really) laugh like crazy. We had an awesome time around the botanical gardens and even took some photos up by the hydro plant. Check em out!

Slideshow of recent shoot

Hey one and all so here’s the first real post – my website is live! wohoooo and among all the other new and funky programs and equipment I have bought in the last little while – I got showitfasts web slideshow program and I have to say I love it! Check out a recent slideshow done for a client getting married in May – these are the engagement photos and the bride loved the slideshow – I have a good feeling about this program…. click here to view the slideshow. In other news I also did a couples portrait session with Jimmy and Brianne – Jimmy is a friend of my brother’s and is practically a member of the family at this point – so he came with his girlfriend Brianne to the botanical gardens (wearing the sweater my mom gave him for Christmas one year) and we got some really fun shots! On a side note Amanda Lachapelle Photography will be happy to welcome Brianne in January when she will start with us as a co-op student! Check out a few photos from the day
