What’s been happening?

So you probably already know that last September, Bryan and I were blessed with our little guy – Nate. Things were quite hectic so I definitely got behind on blogging but the clients who I shot during that time still deserve to have their images and stories told. I am going to work harder at being better at every aspect of my business this year – especially blogging. On that note – on to the images!

The first story, would be a wedding from last November – Kristina and Alain. When they both came into my office to meet me I think the first thing I noticed was Kristina’s eyes – she has these gorgeous blue eyes that are peircing and yet soft. I always get excited when I sit down with a couple who are visibly in love but with whom I also share a connection. The two were so relaxed and friendly and told me that they just wanted to celebrate each other and have a small intimate wedding. So off Bryan and I went on a chilly November day to be a part of their day. Thankfully, due to the time of the year and the time of their ceremony – Kristina and Alain opted for a first look. I am so lucky to have been included and am super happy with the images from the day . . .

The next photos I have are from a workshop I attended in February – this part will just be the images as the couples were just models but the workshop was awesome!

The workshop was a great way to learn and practice some new techniques and I look forward to finding room for them in my wedding day approach.

In March I went to WPPI with a photographer friend of mine, Mandie from Shutterbrugs photography and Mandie brought a gorgeous dress from the designer Lesley Giles as she was personally asked to photograph it by Lesley herself. Mandie graciously allowed me to come along and I love the look of these photos. Most of the time my portraits tend to be on the more romantic and natural side but every once and awhile I get a sassy bride who wants to show off some attitude. It was great to see the model for the shoot, Isabelle pose as she was amazing and gave me some great ideas for direction with future clients.

and this last one is my all time favorite image from the shoot :)

That brings us pretty up to date for what happened over the winter now for updates on what I’ve been shooting since the beginning of the season!

Wishing you friendship and love,

Amanda

Wednesday Tip #1

I am terrible at accounting and keeping track of my finances – my husband recently did me a huge favour and put an envelope in my glove box – A small thing but it has definitely helped me to channel my receipts into one spot – so that I don’t lose them! Making lists and designating spots for yourself – especially if you are a disorganized person can definitely help! It sounds so simple but if your like me it’s harder than you’d think!

**Short tip for now – too late to say more but I wanted to keep my blog post a day promise :) **

. . . Blog . . .

So I’m pretty sure that I accomplished my blog post a day for 31 days goal but to be sure I think I am going to once again attempt blogging once a day. In an effort to remind myself and to take a page out of someone else’s book I think I am going to schedule topics (oooo planning something that is pretty scary for me) or at least certain days that I discuss certain kinds of things. So here is my attempt at organizing the blog but no promises that it will stay this way forever – this is a trial run – let’s see if it works!

Ok so blogs posts would be made Monday – Friday and it would look something like this . . .

Monday – Feel good story / song / poem for the week

Tuesday – Photos from the weekends wedding / family shoot / outing (so if I don’t have a wedding I’ll post a photo from whatever I did that weekend or something from my personal life)

Wednesday – Some sort of tip or trick – this could be about photography – life – running a business etc . . .

Thursday – Updates on what’s going on in the business and what kind of stuff we’re working on and any meetings or networking groups we’ve attended

Friday – Personal or Business related meanderings

Ok so for some rules – I am going to try and post a blog a day about those subjects but if I find myself needing to write about other subjects as well I cannot replace the regular blog post – I must write TWO WHOLE BLOG POSTS!

I’ve gotten some feedback from clients and/other people that have checked out my site about checking back to see what I’ve written lately and so in an effort to make your checks worthwhile I am attempting to be more diligent in posting – I promise I promise!!!!!

Wish me luck!

Radio Presets

How many of you have preset stations that have been programmed in your car radio? I never could figure out how to do this (yes I know how to work a camera but not a car radio) so I never bothered and happily used my search feature and flicked from station to station until I found a song I liked. About two weeks ago I went to the casino for a friends birthday and one of the party goers is an avid music fan and kept asking me to flip between two particular stations, and when I kept pressing search he asked me “Don’t you have them preset into your radio?” at which time, shamed, I admitted that no, I didn’t know how to do it. So my husband, who was also in the car pipes up and says “oh I have the same radio” and then shows me how to do it, and it’s really as simple as pushing and holding down the button – which is pretty much what I do for a living! So anyways to make a long story, shorter (but not quite short) I now know how to create presets for my car radio – does that mean I use them? Nope! I hate being limited! I like to flip around and discover what is out there and it’s kinda funny because when I thought about it – it’s how I am with my business too! I have a tendency to always want to learn and grow more and never settle for the same old thing. So next time your listening to your favorite station and your not so favorite song comes on – switch it up and jump outside of the box – that’s when life’s best lessons and surprises happen :)
